CRITIQUE: "English Summer"
by Joyce Washor
|
| English Summer 2007, oil, 16 x 20. |
The artist may want to consider a few changes to the composition to make this a better painting. The placement of the large tree on the left-hand side would be more effective if the tree didn’t run off the side of the canvas. The shadows should also be consistent across the composition, which means extending the shadows of the smaller plants. I would also suggest moving the horses to the right side of the composition—since the horses are the focal point of the composition, it would be more effective to place them off center.

Lovely, lovely painting! But I do agree with the comments about the tree and the horses.
