Painting Fat-Over-Lean with Alkyds

A fat-over-lean sequence should be used with alkyds or alkyd mediums. Alkyd paints dry more quickly than traditional oils due to their oil-modified alkyd resins. Therefore, do not use alkyd paints or medium solely on the upper layers of an oil painting because the painting will crack.

Transporting Oil Paintings

To easily transport oil paintings, consider placing sheets of wax paper or lightweight plastic bags between them. These layers will keep the paint from sticking to itself as a result of environmental changes that might occur during transportation.
