Try painting on smooth Claybord with acrylic paint. The combination of the clay coating and the smooth surface allows for free-flowing brush strokes, intense color, and the ability to remove paint from the surface with ease.

Use Safflower and Poppyseed Oil to Dilute Paint

To paint oil on a large canvas (109" x 84"), dilute your paint with safflower or poppyseed oil. Safflower oil will yellow the least when combined with a non-toxic mineral spirit to thin out your paints and create a glaze: Try two parts oil to one part spirit. Poppyseed oil is best for whites and blues, and it will help make these colors more pure.

Prevent Wrinkled Watercolor Paintings

Prevent wrinkled watercolor paintings on any weight paper by wetting the back of the dry painting with water, using a brush or sponge. Then press the painting under an even weight overnight and your watercolor will look much better when framed.
